Mariama // Mariama currently lives in the driftless region of Minnesota and received her Master's degree in Earth and Climate Sciences from the University of Maine in 2019 where she studied glaciers and other earthy things. She enjoys running through wild places, going on adventures, learning wherever she can and is constantly on the search for the best cup of coffee. Mariama is editor of LDSB.
Erin // Erin recently graduated from the University of Maine's Climate Change Institute with a Master's degree in Climate Studies. Her thesis used ice core data to examine atmospheric dynamics in northwestern Canada. She currently lives in Houston, Texas in search of a career path in science communication and environmental advocacy. In her spare time, she loves running and reading, as well as escaping to the mountains every so often.
Kate // Kate Hruby has a Master of Science in Earth and Climate Science from the University of Maine and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of New England. When she’s not in school she works on sailboats, usually on the west coast, teaching K-12 students about the world around us from the platform of a tiny ship in a big wide ocean.
Mary // Mary is a master's student in the School of Forest Resources at the University of Maine, where she studies how Maine's forest products and recreation industries can contribute to sustainable development in New England under possible future economic and ecological conditions. She's fortunate that her advisor views outdoor recreation as a necessary component of her research.
Allison // Allison was born and raised in Seattle and now lives in San Diego as a graduate student in the Biological Oceanography PhD program at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Prior to graduate school, she spent 10 years as a research biologist combining her love for science, wildlife, and travel around the world. She is creator of Woman Scientist and leads the Antarctic Citizen Science project FjordPhyto with the Vernet Lab. When not doing science you can find Allison traveling, scuba diving, ultra-running, cycling, or drinking a good cup of coffee.
Jill // Jill currently studies the Antarctic Ice Sheet's response to past warming, at the University of Maine. She is also a climate change artist whose passion is communicating science via painting and printmaking. She is an enthusiast of many things, particularly the outdoors, reading, and skiing.
Sara // Sara currently lives in beautiful Girdwood, Alaska. Enhancing connections between people and the rest of Nature drives her personally and professionally as an adventurer, a mother, an artist, an environmental educator, and a landscape designer specializing in native plants and habitat restoration. She is grateful to be a part of the worldwide community who are working for a healthy planet and world peace.
Rhian // Rhian studies physics in Sheffield, United Kingdom and grew up on a dairy farm in the rolling hills of North Wales. She loves everything science and outdoors related.
Leona // Leona grew up in eight countries on three continents, making the world her home. This has given her the chance to see so many amazing places, which she is passionate to protect. Having recently completed her BSc at Durham University, she is currently working as a field assistant at the Swiss Ornithological Institute.
Anna // Anna is a master's student pursuing a dual degree in Climate and Quaternary Studies with the Climate Change Institute and in Global Policy with the School for Policy and International Affairs. Her research interests include climate change adaptation governance and interactions of international climate governance and ocean governance regimes.
Will // Will is a US National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow at the University of Maine where he is pursuing a masters degree in the School of Earth and Climate Science. Will is interested in glaciers around the world and works with remotely sensed and in situ data to answer questions about glacier dynamics and mass balance.
Kate F // Kate is a recent graduate from Durham University where she studied geography; she spends most of her free time volunteering, hiking, running or cooking. She has travelled as much as she can in the past couple of years and has many big plans for future adventures!
Sughanda // Sugandha is a resident of the Indian capital of New Delhi. She is a student of law at Durham University. Her love for the environment began when she came to this Northern English town, after being exposed to air she could finally breathe.
Mahalia // Mahalia is a college student living in Portland, OR and enjoys eating vegan food, wandering the wild and petting ALL the animals. She is going to save the oceans.
Macy // Macy served as the 2017 Miss Arctic Circle, and is a US Arctic Youth Ambassador and university student. She is from Kotzebue, Alaska, and has spent a large portion of her 20 years at her family camp in Sisualik, AK where she has grown in her culture, as well as in her love of the outdoors and the ocean.
Genevieve // Genevieve currently lives in the driftless region of Minnesota, but since university has lived everywhere from Alaska to Ireland. In her spare time she loves practicing yoga, going for hikes with her dogs and exploring in the great outdoors.
Rosie // Roseanna has lived near the sea for most of her life so loves walking along the coast and swimming in the sea. Exploring and finding beautiful places in both the countryside and in towns makes her super happy too!
Loraine // Loraine lives in the driftless region of western Wisconsin. As an organic farmer, artist, and mother of four--this fabulous woman has seen it all.
Nathan // Nathan was born in Colorado but grew up in Sofia, Bulgaria from ages 6-18. He is now studying at University of Northern Colorado and hopes to live overseas once again, whilst teaching at international schools around the world.
Kate S // Kate is from Minsk, Belarus and she is studying Biomedical Science at Durham University! She enjoys travelling around the world and exploring new cultures. The main things that can make Kate happy are good food, nice conversations with nice people and clean oceans. She is the founder of the One Clean Meter project.
